Vikings give Kyle Rudolph 5-year extension (Yahoo Sports)

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kyle Rudolph hasn't put up the biggest numbers over the first three years of his career, which is due as much to the Minnesota Vikings' revolving door at quarterback as anything else.

The Vikings have known all along what they have in Rudolph, a big, field-stretching tight end who can be a difference-maker in the right offense with the right quarterback. So now they're paying him like one.

Rudolph signed a five-year contract extension with the Vikings on Sunday night, a sign that the team has big plans for Rudolph in new offensive coordinator Norv Turner's offense. The deal, which was first reported by Fox Sports, is worth $36.5 million with $19.4 million guaranteed. Incentives can push the deal to $40 million.

Panthers' Hardy: 'I hate I've distracted my team' (Yahoo Sports)

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Convicted Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Hardy said he wants to remain with the Carolina Panthers beyond this season.

Hardy addressed the media before Sunday's practice but refused to answer specific questions about his recent conviction on two domestic violence charges except to say, ''I hate that I have distracted my team.''

Hardy did not show any remorse during a six-minute interview and didn't offer an apology to the victim in the domestic dispute.

Hardy, the team's franchise player, was convicted this month of assaulting a female and communicating threats and sentenced to a 60-day suspended jail sentence and 18 months' probation following a May 13 incident in which he attacked his ex-girlfriend in his apartment. Hardy is appealing the …

Jets' Pryor has concussion, Amaro tweaks knee (Yahoo Sports)

CORTLAND, N.Y. (AP) — The New York Jets' top two draft picks are a bit banged up.

Safety Calvin Pryor was diagnosed with a concussion Sunday, and tight end Jace Amaro was sidelined in the middle of practice at training camp after tweaking his right knee.

Coach Rex Ryan clarified that Pryor was injured while covering a kickoff – not a punt return, as he originally thought – during full-contact drills Saturday when the returner was knocked into him. Pryor, the team's first-round draft pick, was not with the team at practice and will be sidelined while he goes through the NFL's protocol for head injuries before being cleared to return.

''It's one of those things,'' Ryan said. ''One of those heavyweights hit you in the chin, the lights go out, I guess.''

Coach Mike McCarthy found out in the middle of practice. Right about the time that Nelson was making a pretty touchdown catch on a long corner pass from Aaron Rodgers, word filtered out on social media.

Colts running back Vick Ballard spent 10 months working his way back from a serious injury. On Saturday, coach Chuck Pagano confirmed Indianapolis’ worst fear – that Ballard tore his left Achilles’ tendon and will need season-ending surgery. Vick’s a brother to me,” running back Ahmad Bradshaw said. It’s just heartbreaking for me to see that happen and all I can do is just help him fight through this.” It’s the second straight year Ballard sustained a freak injury in practice without being touched.
