Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen is giving up control of the team as he battles Alzheimer’s disease. The team announced Wednesday that the 70-year-old Bowlen will no longer be a part of the team’s daily operations. Team president Joe Ellis will take over after being named as the Broncos’ chief executive officer. The Broncos say the ownership of the team is held in a trust in hopes that one of Bowlen’s children will run the team one day.

Bengals expect CB Hall, DT Atkins back during camp (Yahoo Sports)

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Bengals expect cornerback Leon Hall to be ready for the start of training camp and defensive tackle Geno Atkins to join them for full workouts sometime later, bringing one of the NFL's top defenses closer to full strength.

Hall and Atkins are two of Cincinnati's biggest questions heading into camp. Both are starters who mean a lot to a defense that ranked third in the NFL last season.

They're among 13 players who haven't been cleared to fully participate in the Bengals' first practice Thursday. Coach Marvin Lewis expects all of them to be ready for the season opener Sept. 7 at Baltimore.

''Actually, all of our guys are doing well,'' Lewis said Tuesday. ''We're fortunate. Our guys are in a good spot.''

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Ace Sanders said Tuesday he is facing a four-game suspension and won't be around for the majority of training camp.

Sanders held a conference call with reporters to disclose his looming punishment.

He declined to discuss the reason for the pending suspension, but says ''personal issues'' will prevent him from attending the start of training camp Friday.

''I have some personal issues that I am dealing with, trying to get everything straightened out,'' he said. ''It's been really tough, a really, really tough road for me this past couple of months. I've been dealing with a lot of stuff, just with life and family and a lot of issues going on.''

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Chargers agreed to a two-year contract extension with running back Danny Woodhead.

Woodhead signed a two-year contract when he joined the Chargers as an unrestricted free agent from New England in March 2013. His new contract runs through the 2016 season.

Woodhead is coming off a career year. He had career highs of 76 catches (second on the team), 605 yards and six touchdowns. He ranked first among all running backs in touchdown catches and ranked second in receptions and yards receiving.

Bills QB, coach differ on offense's performance (Yahoo Sports)

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — Bills quarterback EJ Manuel and coach Doug Marrone had widely conflicting assessments on how the offense performed on the third day of training camp.

Despite numerous errant throws, Manuel didn't see much of anything go wrong Tuesday.

''Nah, good day,'' he said. ''I thought we ran the ball well. I thought we threw the ball well.''

Marrone saw things differently. He agreed when asked if the session was sloppy. And Marrone then provided one-word answers over what he didn't like.

''Execution,'' he said. ''Communication.''

Marrone also wasn't pleased with Manuel's inability to get the ball off during several 7-on-7 drills, when the quarterback decided to take off and run.

''I'm not fine …
